About Me
My first yoga class was in Southsea community hall with Pat, she was a petit & graceful lady, possibly in her late sixties, an Iyengar yoga teacher. I was 22, just out of university, having a lot of fun, but grappling with the transitions of life.
24 years have since passed & multiple life transitions have occurred. One thing is certain & this is that yoga continues to help me find mental clarity, physical balance & spiritual wellbeing no matter what. I now practice daily & reap the rewards of simply being connected to & at home with myself.
I teach Hatha Yoga, although personally I attend a variety of class styles & trainings, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Restorative, Anusara, all of which continue to teach, guide & support my life both on & off the mat.
In April 2018, I finally decided to book a 200hr yoga teacher training. At the time I considered this immersion more an opportunity for personal development over and above any expectation or goal of becoming a teacher. With the support & guidance of Yogacharya Lalit & his team at Himalaya Yoga Valley in Goa I qualified in February 2019. It was a brilliant yet challenging four weeks. Parts of my brain lit up that had been fast asleep, chanting with the dawn chorus was an absolute joy, getting up at 6am no longer felt like a chore, even though my body ached. I wasn’t there to make friends although I now know people who will be friends for life & I am a part of a fantastic yoga community. By the end of my training, I felt teaching would be an absolute pleasure & it would become a valued part of my life.
Later in 2019 I trained with Lisa Sanfilippo, taking her Yoga for Sleep Recovery course. Which brings simple, accessible yoga sequences, breath work & meditation to those living with issues affecting our sleep & rest. I continue to practice with & be guided by Lisa within the sleep recovery work & always look forward to sharing this fabulous set of tools.
From July 2020 I participated in a new mentorship program with Graham Stones of Pain Free Movement. Bringing a greater anatomical awareness into my yoga teachings, deepening my understanding of our visceral pathway communication & incorporating specific focus on our central nervous system, circulation & digestion.
In October 2020 I trained in Restorative Yoga with Anna Ashby & Chris Swain. In our fast paced, device demanding, coffee fuelled world, I continue to value this practice so highly, continuing my own practice with Anna & looking forward to future trainings with her.
Our personal journeys may shape our path of practice, & whichever way I turn, however the discussions unfold, I see the benefits that yoga can bring to all walks of life.
My classes are a lovely mix of slow, alignment based asana, meditation, pranayama & mantra to bring sustained balanced energy & space within.
